A group of students in Sri Lanka brutally hazed (ragged) a Grade 11 student at a private tuition class on Thursday, made a video of the bullying and uploaded it on Facebook.
The incident happened in Polonnuruwa in the country’s North Central Province.
The culprits were arrested by police and released on bail on Friday.
The victim, a student of the Polonnaruwa Royal College, had been harassed by the same students several times earlier. He is now in the Polonnaruwa General Hospital.
The victim’s father said parents of the culprits were pressuring him to get his son discharged from the hospital.
Dad abandons children
A father in Sri Lanka abandoned his two daughters, aged 5 and 8, near a police station, claiming he could no longer look after them as his wife had left him.
The man, an employee of Colombo Eye Hospital, had been taking the children to work with him for ten days after their mother left them.
Unable to continue taking the kids with him to work, he gave their mother’s mobile phone number to the elder one before leaving them.
The family had been living in the Pitipana area of Homagama.
Inspector Sanjaya Leelaratne said the police was trying to reunite the family.
Meanwhile, the police handed over the children to their grandparents after being produced before a magistrate on Wednesday.
Police later arrested the children’s parents but the court on Wednesday released them on sureties of Rs100,000 each.
Family ran heroin business
A 44-year-old woman, her 24-year-old son and 22-year-old daughter-in-law were arrested by Sri Lankan police for possessing 2.01gms of heroin
The three, who are residents of Ragama, had been supplying heroin to inmates of the Bogambara Prison in Kandy.
