A young girl lost her life to honour killing in Egypt. The incident came to light when Tanta University Hospital informed police about receiving a critically injured girl.
The 21-year-old victim of Al Santa village of Al Gharbia governorate was engaged to her cousin, whom she was scheduled to marry next month.
However, according to Al Youm Al Sabea’a newspaper, the girl was in a dilemma because she was in love with another man. She allegedly attempted to escape from her family home.
But her relatives traced her and returned her to her parents, who forced her to marry her cousin.
The girl’s misery was compounded by the fact that her ‘lover’had taken pictures of her and she was afraid of him misusing them.
She allegedly confided her fears in her older brother, who called her to his place. The 29-year-old sibling first tried convincing his sister to marry her fiancé in order to rescue the family from a scandal.
It is alleged that when she refused, he stabbed her several time. She later succumbed to the injuries.
The victim’s brother has been arrested and handed over to Public Prosecution.
