Saudi woman's $1.33m marriage offer

A Saudi woman is offering SRfive million ($1.33 million) for a man who agrees to marry her under a Misyar contract and accepts all her conditions.

The 33-year-old woman, who did not reveal her identity, published an advertisement in the Saudi Arabic language magazine Sayidaty saying she is looking for a “misyar husband” after the failure of her first traditional marriage three years ago.

She said her first marriage collapsed after she found out that her husband married her for money and did not respect their “marital relationship.”

Sayidaty said the woman lives in the western Saudi Red Sea port of Jeddah and that those interested can e mail her through the magazine.

“The woman said those who wish to contact her must give their personal details and leave their contact number...she stressed that the one she will select must accept all her conditions,” the magazine said without specifying those conditions.

It quoted the woman as saying:”I am currently considering marrying again and it is my main obsession…I don’t care if this husband is after money…what matters now is that he must appreciate marriage life and give me all my needs.”

Misyar is a marriage contract where couples can live separately but get together regularly, often for sexual relations.

Although allowed in Saudi Arabia and under Sunni Islam, Misyar is not popular with many who see it as legal prostitution. Women lose nearly all their rights in a Misyar marriage and nearly 80 per cent of Misyar relationships end in divorce.
