Kenny Dalglish seems to have a fancy for South American strikers with Bologna's Gaston Ramirez being the latest to come under the Liverpool manager's radar.

Dalglish is preparing to step up his pursuit of a new striker and has set his sights on Ramirez, according to reports in Italian publication Corriere dello Sport.

Liverpool are planning to table an offer of £14 million for 21-year-old Uruguayan forward once the January transfer window opens for business.

So far this season Liverpool have only managed to score 17 goals in their opening 14 Premier League games - with Ramirez's Uruguay team mate Luis Suarez not finding the net for two months and Andy Carroll starting more games from the bench.

Dalglish and the clubs director of football Damien Comolli are huge admirers of Ramirez, who has been in terrific form over the past couple of seasons and is regarded as one of the best young strikers in Serie A.

However, it remains to be seen whether Bologna would be willing to part with one of their prized assets.
