Manchester City outcast Carlos Tevez could be headed to Dubai if Al Wasl’s coach Diego Maradona has his way.

Maradona wants to offer the rebel striker an escape route from the Etihad Stadium, according to the ‘Daily Star’ (https://bit.ly/qlSS4l).

The former Argentina coach has reportedly asked Al Wasl’s backers to put a financial package together that could lure him to the Middle East.

He sprang to the defence of his troubled compatriot by calling Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson “a joke” for taking City manager Roberto Mancini’s side in the incident before even a full inquiry had been launched.

Maradona took charge of Al Wasl earlier this year and believes Tevez could help turn his side into the best in the UAE Pro League.

However, Al Wasl will have to compete with a host of clubs including West Ham who are interested in signing up the Argentine striker during the January transfer window.

Big spending Paris Saint Germain are the latest to join the race for the disgraced City hitman.

PSG spent nearly £40 million on signing Chelsea’s Javier Pastore and have even discussed the possibility of recruiting former England skipper David Beckham to their ranks, along with City’s Tevez.

Tevez has become a reviled figure at Etihad Stadium following his refusal to play come on as a substitute in last week’s Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich.

The 27-year-old has been suspended for two weeks by City pending an in-house probe into his behaviour.

City boss Mancini insists Tevez is finished at City and the club are expected to announce their next move before Friday.

It remains to be seen if Al Wasl can afford Tevez’s £250,000-a-week wages, for Tevez but Maradona is planning talks with Tevez to see if he would be interested in linking-up with him in Dubai.

Maradona has a private plane at his disposal as part of his £3m-a-year deal with Al Wasl and could even jet back to Argentina to hold talks with Tevez, according to the report.

The striker has flown home to South America to spend time with his family after being interviewed by City officials in Manchester on Monday.

He landed in Buenos Aires on Monday but refused to speak to waiting reporters before being driven away in a private car.
