Joint visa to watch Cricket World Cup in Australia, New Zealand

A joint visa has been introduced for cricket fans eager to watch the Cricket World Cup 2015, which will be hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The visa will grant travellers with an existing Australian visa, a visa on arrival to New Zealand when the countries are visited during the period of the World Cup.

This was decided under the Trans-Tasman agreement signed by both World Cup hosts.

The Cricket World Cup will be held from February 14 to March 29, 2015 with all 14 qualifying teams to play matches in both Australia and New Zealand.

The joint visa will be valid between January 26 and April 5, 2015, giving travellers plenty of time to spend in both countries.

Cricket fans visiting the countries within the given time period have to only apply and pay for one visa, while granted access to both countries.

The visa on arrival to New Zealand will be available for people holding almost any type of Australian visa.

However, visitors heading down South to watch the matches will most likely apply for the visitor visa, or subclass 600.

This visa lets you visit Australia for up to three, six or 12 months for the basic charge of AUD130 to AUD335.

Passport holders of certain countries are eligible for a visa free of charge. Most European countries are on this list.

To qualify for a visa, international visitors must meet the requirements of both countries, which are mostly related to health, security and character requirements. Both countries will retain the individual right to refuse entry if a visitor does not meet these requirements.
