Carlo Ancelotti is targeting beleaguered Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s job as he considers a return to English football.

The former Chelsea boss says he has a “strong desire” to return to England for his next job.

Ancelotti, 52, believes there could soon be a vacancy at Arsenal who are languishing just above relegation in the Premier League table.

He told Italian daily La Repubblica that England “is the ideal country for a coach.”

The Italian, axed by Chelsea at the end of last season, said: “It’s evident Wenger is wobbling and that within a few months Capello’s place with the national team will go to an Englishman and free up a place at a club.

“I have a strong will to remain in England. For a coach, this is the ideal country.

“But I would only consider top clubs including Tottenham and Liverpool.”

If not, then other opportunities may open up when Fabio Capello steps down as England coach following the Euro 2012 finals.

Having also coached AC Milan to two Champions League trophies, Ancelotti is currently working as an analyst for Italy’s Sky TV.

Ancelotti also wants to lock horns with Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson again.

The former AC Milan manager added: “As time goes on, the more I fall in love with Ferguson."

“He understands football like few do.”
