Al Futtaim recalls nearly 2,000 cars

Al Futtaim Motors, the distributors of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the UAE, on Wednesday said it is recalling nearly 2,000 vehicles of both the brands manufactured in 2004 due to a technical fault.

A press statement sent to Emirates 24l7 said that 929 Toyota Avalon and Camry vehicles of 2004 model and 1,015 Lexus RX330 and ES300 vehicles of 2004 models will be recalled for inspection and possibly replacing the crankshaft pulley on the V6 engine in the UAE.

The recall is part of Toyota’s global announcement whereby it’s recalling 550,000 vehicles including 10,000 across the Middle East region.

The global recall affects 447,000 vehicles in North America, 38,000 in Japan and another 25,000 in Australia and New Zealand. In Europe some 14,000 vehicles are being recalled along with 10,000 in the Middle East and 14,000 in Asia outside Japan.

The auto major has recalled nearly 14 million vehicles in just two years.

Simon Frith, Managing Director of Al Futtaim Motors, said that the group is contacting all customers who may have faulty units in the coming few days so that their vehicles can be inspected.
