Maktoum holds talks with Peace

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, yesterday met a delegation of Standard Chartered Bank led by Chairman John Peace.

They reviewed the banking situation and the fallout of the global crisis. Peace praised the stability of the UAE financial sector and its overcoming the stagnation barrier amid the slowdown in growth witnessed by world markets.

Peace highlighted the speedy measures taken by the UAE leadership which helped quickly overcome the fallout of the global financial crisis on the operations of banks and their transformation programmes.

He said Standard Chartered is financing big projects in the UAE, adding that the bank has three main centres – in London, Singapore and Dubai. The bank considers Dubai office a vital centre to develop and expand banking activities in the UAE, region and Middle East.

Also present was Director of Dubai Ruler's Court Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, and other officials.
