Egyptian bus and truck collide, killing 13

At least 13 Egyptians were killed and 21 others were injured when a bus collided head-on with a truck on a highway south of Cairo on Sunday.

Security sources said the bus had been trying to overtake another vehicle when it hit a truck travelling in the opposite direction near the town of Beni Suef.

The bus had been taking Egyptians from Giza, near Cairo, to Beni Suef following the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Reckless driving, lax traffic rules and poor road conditions cause many road crashes in Egypt. A series of road and rail accidents has sparked a public outcry over the government's record on transport safety.
