Bomb on bus kills three in Philippines

A crude bomb killed at least three people and wounded about 25 in a parked bus in the southern Philippines on Thursday, a military spokesman said.

"It's an improvised bomb," said Major Armand Rico, adding that it was too early to say who was responsible for the attack in Digos town in Davao del Sur province.

He said about 25 people were wounded in the blast and three were killed on the spot.

The bus had parked in the terminal enroute to Davao City.

Small-scale bombings are common in the volatile southern Philippines, where there are long-running Muslim and communist insurgencies and bandits use explosives to extort money.

Last year, bus companies in the south were targeted by bandits seeking to extort money.
