Defence told to study Sama Dubai's status

The Sama Dubai corruption case appeal was adjourned yesterday to give defence lawyers time to study a letter clarifying the status of the developer.

The letter from the Financial Audit Department of the Dubai Ruler's Court says Sama Dubai is a public company, its funds are public and employees are public ones assigned to perform a public service. The document was submitted to the Dubai Appeal Court by the public prosecution.

The defendants are Emirati NS, a former sales consultant at Sama Dubai's Al Khayran project, Emirati MM, former Al Khayran sales manager, Syrian AH, former director of real estate development at Damac Holding, MN, former senior sales executive at Al Khayran who carries no identification documents, and AM, executive chairman of Al Khayran.

The latter was acquitted by Dubai Criminal Court but the Public Prosecution challenged the decision. MM, MN and NS were jailed for a year.
