Underground media get glimpse of Dubai Metro

Members of the media joined officials from the Roads and Transport Authority yesterday for a tour of the under-construction Dh12bn Dubai Metro. Once it starts running next year, it will be the world's largest automated mass-transit system.

Red and Green lines, which traverse the city, are nearing completion, and further lines are planned. The first two lines will run underground in the city centre and on elevated viaducts elsewhere. The Red line run 50km with 35 stations from Jebel Ali Port, the American University in Dubai, through the city, and to the Airport Free Zone.

The Green Line is 20km with 22 stations from Festival City, through the city centre, Dubai International Airport Terminals 1 and 3, to Rashidiya.
