A frame from The Omen, which plays tonight on Star Movies

A box of blockbuster delights

Grab that tub of popcorn and cosy up in front of the telly because the Star Movies Fan Fest is now in full swing, promising two months of Hollywood blockbusters that will keep you entertained during this sweltering summer, and not clawing the walls with boredom.

Every night at 9.30pm, until the end of August, the channel will host a selection of premiere screenings, along with special presentations for Fridays – perfect for those who like to stay in for a quiet night. But if you miss out, you can catch an encore the next day at 1pm.

Tonight’s film is the chilling horror, The Omen (pictured above), which sees the devil reincarnated as a young boy who will stop at nothing to take over the world. But this is not the only classic to watch out for.

One of the biggest hits to catch this summer is Cinderella Man on July 11, which will feature as part of the action-packed Friday Mega Movie lineup. Directed by Ron Howard and starring Oscar winners Russell Crowe and Renée Zellweger, the film is the inspirational true story of a working-class man who inspired millions during the Depression years of the United States and how he fought against the odds to become a sporting legend.

Another premiere to make a note in your diary about is the August 15 premiere of Jodie Foster’s Flightplan. Directed by Robert Schwentke, the two-time Oscar winner Foster is cast as a recently widowed aviation engineer whose daughter disappears during a trans-Atlantic flight. But no one seems to have seen a child onboard. Has she gone mad with grief or is her daughter in real danger? The gripping thriller will have you on the edge of your seats.
