Canteen guide for schools is on the menu

Perhaps inspired by the overseas success of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, Abu Dhabi's health authority wants to develop a school canteen guide.

The Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (Haad), the regulative body for healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi, yesterday organised the first school health strategy development workshop with participation from the Abu Dhabi Education Council, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company.

Participants discussed the health of students at schools in the emirate and possible ways to improve it through a comprehensive strategy by enhancing school-health-related services and integrating the concept of healthy lifestyles in schools.

"In co-operation with the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority and the Abu Dhabi Education Council, the workshop aims to develop a school canteen guide and to issue healthy eating standards for students in schools," said Dr Arwa Al Modwahi, Senior Public Health Officer, Family and School Health at Haad.

"Our programmes in the field of family and school health are continuously assessed to track their effectiveness in raising awareness."
