New Metro feeder bus routes to start Friday
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will launch new feeder bus routes for the Dubai Metro on Friday, an official said yesterday.
The agency aims to cover more areas in the emirate and has announced a plan to widen, upgrade and merge existing routes as well.
"Launching these routes has come to light as a result of elaborate studies and extensive site surveys carried out by the planning and business development department at Public Transport Agency to identify the requirements of linking the metro stations with the public bus network in Dubai, and establishing the specific requirements of all areas in the vicinity of the new metro stations that warrant merging, widening and upgrading several existing routes," said Eisa Abdul-Rahman Al Dosari, Chief Executive Officer of Public Transport Agency at the transport authority.
Work will begin on the new routes and modifications to coincide with the opening of seven new Metro stations, namely: Emirates Airlines, Airport (Terminal 1), Karama, Emirates Towers, Dubai Internet City, Dubai Marina and Ibn Battuta," said Al Dosari.
"The three new routes will be dedicated to serve Dubai Internet City Station, Dubai Marina Station and Jumeirah Lakes Towers Station, and as such will travel through several districts of the city,"?Al Dosari said.
Two buses are deployed on all three routes and the services will run at intervals of 20 minutes.
