Award winning director Rituparno Ghosh dies of heart attack

Award winning Bengali filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh passed away in Kolkata, he was 49. Heart attack is said to be the reason of his death.

Ghosh was born on August 31, 1963 in Kolkata. His father was a well known documentary filmmaker.

Ghosh directed well known Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 'Chokher Bali' and 'Raincoat'. Both films won a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bangla and Hindi, respectively.

He directed the legendary Amitabh Bachchan in 'The Last Lear'.

Mr Ghosh had last tweeted on May 28, 2013 about his last film Satyanewshi.

"Wrapped up the shoot of Satyanewshi, a crime thriller in the molten glow of the pensive falling afternoon," he tweeted. "Surprising that the brooding prince of indian cinema Guru Dutt,stayed in the same palatial mansion to film his Sahab Biwi aur Ghulam," he had posted.

Rituparno Ghosh came to prominence with his 1994 film 'Unishe April'. He won multiple National Awards and several acclaimed international awards. 

He started his career in advertising and his directional debut was Hirer Angti (The diamond ring). In his last release Chitrangada, he gave tribute to Rabindranath Tagore's Chitrangada a new version. He made his first screen presence in an Oriya film Katha Deithilli Ma Ku which is directed by Himanshu Parija and released in 2003.

The entire Indian film fraternity took to various medium to express their condolences and shocked over the untimely demise of the talented filmmaker.

Rituparno won 12 National Awards in the course of his career.
