Insider scoop on Bollywood's big bash as Bachchan turns 70

Mega celebrations are on the cards for the hottest Bollywood event of the year taking place next week; and no, it’s not the Saifeena wedding that has stumped family members and fans on when the actual ceremony is scheduled for.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan is turning 70 on October 11, and to celebrate this milestone, the first family of the Indian film fraternity – as the Bachchans are often referred to – are pulling out all stops for the patriarch of the household.

A massive 1,000 people seated-dinner has been planned, according to industry insiders, with the most plausible venues being the JW Marriott Hotel or the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai.

Stand by me

According to sources, wife Jaya and daughter Shweta Nanda are the two conspirators in planning this birthday bash, with the former playing the hostess for the night.

But wait, she’s not alone in shouldering this responsibility.

Business magnate Anil Ambani and wife Tina Ambani, who are also close friends of the Bachchans (remember how they loaned their private jet for Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan’s honeymoon?), are expected to co-host the event.

Meanwhile, designer duo Sanjay Khosla and Abu Jani have a few tricks up their tailored sleeves too, considering their close association with the Bachchan family for decades.

The duo are said to be designing special party outfits for the entire Bachchan clan, along with a special surprise masterpiece for the birthday boy.

The pair is also pencilled in to design the party invites, along with the favours that will be handed out to guests on October 11.

That’s entertainment

An all-red velvet decor theme will be the order of the day, and guests too will reportedly be expected to follow the theme to the party.

Buzz is that several international artistes have been roped in to perform on the occasion, including Canada’s award-winning Cirque Du Soleil, known for its unique presentations that are a dramatic mix of circus art, classical music and dances, and street performances.

The group, known to employ 1,300 artists, fuses various dance forms including hip-hop, ballet and contemporary dance and gravity defying acts with jugglery, acrobatics, stage performances and surreal music.

Meanwhile, a documentary film with rare images of the superstar from his birth to the present day will be screened and a book on him as an actor will be released simultaneously.

Seems the Bachchan bash will rival the Karan Johar ‘naughty at 40’ birthday spectacle earlier this year.
