April inflation down over March

The monthly inflation rate for consumer prices fell by 0.69 per cent in April compared to March, while the annual inflation rate was about 1.18 per cent during the month of April 2011 compared with April 2010 according to the monthly inflation report issued by the Dubai Statistics Center.

The report attributed the decline in clothing and footwear  to 1.99 per cent, housing, water electricity, gas ,fuel to 1.52 per cent, food and non-alcoholic beverages to 1.43 per cent, while communication declined by 0,02 per cent.

While the report attributed the high rate of annual inflation in April 2011 compared to April 2010, to furniture and household appliances, which increased by 8.70 per cent, food and non-alcoholic beverages by 4.78 per cent, restaurants and hotels by 4.72 per cent, education by 3.41 per cent, health by 3.34 per cent, miscellaneous goods and services 2.61 per cent, beverages and tobacco 2.15 per cent, while  communications rose by 0.71 per cent and entertainment and culture by 0.23 per cent.
