RTA starts taxi service for students, office-goers

The Roads and Transport Authority has started a dedicated taxi service that is akin to authorised car-lift.

The service, available through subscription on weekly, monthly or yearly basis, is available for students, office-goers and others who run on a fixed route daily.

Though the subscription is free of cost, the actual fare depends on the distance travelled by the passengers, just like the normal taxis.

However, the starting fare is Dh25 and the metre charge would be Dh1.71 per kilometre travelled, while 50fils would be charged per waiting minute.

An additional Dh20 would be charged for trips to Sharjah, which is a norm with all taxis.

The service named ‘In Safe Hands’ is especially target for students, families people with special needs as well as women, though other members of the society could also avail the facility.

A choice of cars and drivers would also be available for subscribers, who could make their choice clear while filling a form during subscription.

Both sedans as well as vans are available, as are both male and female taxi drivers.

“We have dedicated 60 taxis dedicated for the service and more would be added depending on the demand. We are starting this service for the safety and convenience of our loyal passengers, who have to book taxis daily for their trips,” said Abdul Mohsin Ibrahim CEO of RTA’s strategic and corporate governance department, as he announced the service.

The service would be a great convenience for those who travel daily by taxis or who prefer private and safe transport for themselves or their kids.
