10 kids fell from windows, balconies last month

Of late the number of children falling from balconies and windows of their homes in the UAE has increased.

According to a top official of Khalifa Hospital, last month alone, the emergency section of the hospital received 10 such cases, reported 'Gulf Today'.

“It’s sad to know about children dying in such accidents. Fall from balconies and windows may result in internal bleeding and fracture of the skull," said Hamad Taryam Al Shamsi, Director of Ajman Medical Zone, and Director of Khalifa Hospital.

He urged authoities to look into the height of balcony and window rails in residential buildings and set a specific standard, which should be comprimised upon.

There are numerous building across the UAE with wide windows without any railing.

Meanwhile, Brigadier Saleh Al Matrooshi, Director of Ajman Civil Defence, said before construction approval is given, it should be made mandatory that all structures adhere to the stipulated heights of balconies and windows.
