6 Dubai school girls caught sniffing anesthetic
Six girls at a Dubai-based school have been caught sniffing an anesthetic substance, which a doctor said could cause death, according to a local newspaper.
A female teacher at the private school in Mazhar area caught the six 11th class girls sniffing ethyl chloride sprayed on a wet tissue, 'Emarat Al Youm' daily said.
It said the teacher considered the incident as ‘an individual act’ but added that measures had been taken to warn the students about the dangers of such a substance.
“We have ordered those involved to present a demonstration in class about a sudden death caused by such substances and the need to protect themselves,” the Dubai-based Arabic language daily said, quoting the unnamed teacher.
The teacher said the school management had ‘internally’ dealt with the incident and discussed it with the parents of the six girls so it would not be repeated.
The paper quoted doctor in Dubai as saying ethyl chloride, which is used as gasoline additive and as an anesthetic, could cause fainting to those who sniff it heavily, adding that it could also lead to death as it includes a dangerous substance called nitrous oxide.
