84 workers in Sharjah hospitalised after gas leak

Eighty four Asian workers at a Sharjah industrial zone were hospitalised after inhaling gas leaked from old cylinders that were due to be sold to a scrap firm.

May of them suffered from mild asphyxia and were treated at Al Qassimi, Kuwait and Sharjah University Hospitals before they were discharged.

Others were kept for further examination before they were released while four workers remained hospitalized, according to the Arabic language daily Alkhaleej.

It quoted police as saying the incident occurred at the industrial zone 3 and that it was caused by a leak of gas deposits in the old cylinders after they were cut off by some workers to sell them to a scrap firm.
