Credit card default tops Dubai economic crimes
Number of economic crime cases in Dubai has risen in the first six months of this year compared to the same period in 2010, with credit cards fraud topping the list.
About 306 cases were reported in the first half of this year as against 286 cases during the same period last year, according to Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri of General Department of Criminal Investigation, Dubai Police.
Lieutenant-General Saleh Juma Bu Aseebah, Director, Economic Crime Combating Department, said: "Number of fraud cases was 56 cases during H1 this year compared to 32 cases last year. Credit cards topped the fraud cases, with 26 reported cases in the first six months compared to seven last year."
He added “the number of cases of credit cards was nearly 30 cases in 2010, compared to 41 in, 2009, as well the total fraud cases last year, was 79 cases, in compared to 84 cases in 2009.
Bu Aseebah there were 10 fake note cases reported during the six-month period, against 11 such incidents last year.
Meanwhile, 20 cases of forged documents were reported in the first half of this year compared to 14 last year.
