Dubai records 4,387 violations of housing rules

Dubai Municipality’s ‘One Villa, One Family’ campaign found 4,387 houses violating building and construction rules during the first half of this year.

Omar AbdulRahman, Head of Building Inspection Section at Dubai Municipality, said 40,707 houses were inspected since the beginning of the campaign to ensure compliance with municipality laws and legislation.

The inspectors continued their inspection campaign and surprise visits in co-ordination with various government departments and imposed fines on offenders according to law.

AbdulRahman said the violations ranged from bachelors staying in family areas and multiple families staying in one house, in addition to other violations such as adding structures to buildings without permit and using houses for other purposes.

He said municipal services were cut off to about 1,654 houses during the same period after warnings from the municipality went unheeded.

Regarding the reasons for so many irregularities, he said the emirate has in recent years witnessed huge growth and it is natural that expansion would be accompanied by violations by some people.
