Food poisoning alert ahead of summer

UAE authorities and company officials have begun investigations into what has caused at least 40 residents of the Al Saja labour camp to be hospitalised this weekend with symptoms of food poisoning.

Labour authorities have already spruced up inspections in labour camps ahead of summer months.

The workers of a construction company are receiving treatment in two hospitals in Ajman and Sharjah and are receovering.

UAE authorities have taken several measures to ensure healthy and hygienic living for residents, specially for those living in camps.

Regular impromptu checks of camps, restaurants and eateries are common across the Emirates, with strict penalties issued against offenders.

Meanwhile, colleagues of the hospitalised workers said most of them complained of stomach pain, nausea, vomitting, diarohhea and fever.

Workers suspect water and grocery items as possible causes.

Most of those hospitalised hail from India and Bangladesh.

Doctors have urged all residents to keep themselves hydrated and to store food correctly during the summer months.
