Over 50,000 people expected to travel from and to Sharjah during Eid holidays
Sharjah is gearing up for Eid Al Adha celebrations, with an increased number of commuters travelling between Sharjah and other emirates.
From Wednesday September 23 till Saturday September 26, an adjusted bus time schedule will be implemented to accommodate the larger number of passengers.
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) operates intercity bus routes between all emirates on a total of 15 lines.
Whereas a regular day clocks between 15,000-20,000 passengers, this number will shoot up to an expected 50,000 commuters per day during the Eid holidays, said Mahmoud Mutawa, Operation Manager.
“A total of 5,000 bus trips will be made per day at an average headway of 10-15 minutes,” said Al Mutawa.
On a regular day, the total number of trips is between 1200-1500 at an average headway of 30-45 minutes.
Whereas the daily number of buses deployed are 150, the fleet has been increased to 400 coaches during Eid.
“We have deployed additional buses by partnering up with mother and sister companies,” Al Mutawa commented.
Bus timings will be extended over the course of the four-day holiday.
“The first bus will depart at 4.30am while the last trip arrives at 1am, instead of the 5am-11pm time schedule,” said Al Mutawa.
The revised time schedule will be displayed at Al Jubail bus station from where all intercity buses leave.
