Hamdan attends Youth Circle session
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, attends the first session of the Youth Circles's initiative organised by the Emirates Youth Council on Wednesday in Dubai.
‘Youth Circles’ is one of the Council’s initiatives launched as part of the 100-day Plan of Shamma bint Sohail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, to provide the country’s youth a platform to discuss the best practices and the most important topics related to youth and their aspirations, and come up with innovative ideas.
The first Youth Circles held in the City Walk was attended by more than 100 youth leaders and university students, who discussed the most important developments in this world.
Al Mazrui said the Youth Circles chose ‘Youth and Skills of the Future’ as the title of the first session to highlight the importance of involving young Emirati talent in the country’s development plans and providing them with the skills for the future to enable them to develop their capabilities and play a leading role in the future of the UAE.
The first Youth Circles marks the start of the process to prepare the UAE youth for the future and offer them opportunities through the Council to put forward programmes and initiatives that would activate their role in the community. It will enable them to work efficiently in a number of areas related to academic and professional life.
Discussions during the first session stressed that rather than focusing on future jobs, it is more important to look at future skills, proficiencies and abilities across different work settings. It said as new smart machines become integral to every aspect of human life, the future offers new possibilities to extend human capabilities by building on new partnerships with machines to build mutual strengths.
The session also pointed out that new media is placing new demands on attention while at the same time requiring people to engage in activities such as online personal reputation and identity management. It said the current sensibility toward reality and truth is likely to be radically altered by the new media ecology, requiring more cautious approach to content.
The ‘Youth Circles’ will showcase the best practices and discuss the most important issues, opportunities and challenges related to areas such as: national identity, innovation, entrepreneurship, localisation, happiness, sustainability, health, education, economy, technology, and others.
The ‘Youth Circles’ reflect the UAE’s efforts to promote unity and community participation as well as raise the level of communication between government and citizens to ensure the provision of innovative solutions that exceed the aspirations of the people.
The Emirates Youth Council will oversee and organise the ‘Youth Circles’ in all areas of the UAE, including universities, schools, institutions, parks, commercial centres and sports clubs.
