Khalifa urges the community to conserve the national environment
President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan urged on Thursday all community forces to shoulder their national responsibility towards protection, conservation and development of the indigenous desert environment resources.
In an address to the nation on the 14th National Environment Day which falls on Friday, the President said: "The National Environment Day is an important annual event that receives all care and attention from us. The national effort is focused through activities of this day for the whole year towards a specific environmental issue of top significance and priority.
"Your have struck remarkable success in choosing the theme 'Desert Pulses with Life' for celebrations of this year's Environment Day," Sheikh Khalifa noted.
He added: "Development of the desert environment is a key component of our state's vision and strategy, and constitutes a genuine integral part of our heritage and history. Therefore, deepening awareness about its significant status and its protection forms a core element of national responsibility.
The President lavished praise on the entities and organisations engaging in organising and marking this day.
"We call on all segments of the community to contribute efficiently in shouldering the responsibility of protecting, conserving and developing desert environment resources so as to remain throbbing with life as it has always been throughout the history," the President said.
