Man offers Dh1.5 million bribe to Dubai cop
An Iranian businessman, who was arrested for possessing drugs, allegedly attempted to bribe a police officer with Dh1.5 million to set him free, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
MSS, 53, is accused of possessing 3.66gms of opium and eight tablets that contain alprazolam, drug taking and offering a cheque of Dh1.5 million in return for releasing him.
Lieutenant Salem Hamad testified that the accused was arrested following a tip-off at Al Mamzar area.
“Police confiscated eight tablets which he claimed are for his wife’s medical treatment. However, he later admitted to taking opium. I went to inform my senior. When I returned, my colleague said the accused had offered him a cheque of Dh1.5 million against releasing him. I informed my senior about this also. A urine test proved him to be taking drugs. The accused confessed to possessing opium in his house in Al Mamzar area,” the lieutenant testified.
The court adjourned the case to June 24.
