Masdar graduate bags Emarat Al Youm prize
An Emirati man who has just graduated from Abu Dhabi-based Masdar Institute has been selected as “person of the month” by Dubai-based Emirat Alyoum Arabic language daily, which introduced the award in early 2012.
Wael Al Muaini won the prize for May for his achievements in saving underground water resources by conserving surplus water during low-consumption periods in artesian wells, the paper said on Tuesday.
“This is a real achievement amidst growing calls for rationalization of water resources in the country,” Emirat Alyoum editor in chief Sami Al Riami said.
Muaini, holder of MA degree from the prestigious Masdar Institute, has published a study detailing proposals for conserving ground water resources in the UAE, one of the world’s richest in oil but poorest in water wealth.
Emarat Al Youm one of the most popular Arabic language newspapers in the region, launched the “person of the month” award in January 2012 to honour outstanding people for their role in the society, the first prize of its kind in the country.
An affiliate of the Dubai Media Incorporated, one of the largest information establishments in the region, Emarat Alyoum said its editing board would pick the person at the end of each month.
