Outrageously silly 999 calls UAE Police received this year

The Operations room in Abu Dhabi Police has reiterated its commitment to deal with all reports seriously and with great interest, even if some of the complaints they receive are not serious in nature, said Lt. Col. Nasser Al-Maskary, the Director of Central Operations Department.

He said that the operations room is quick to provide assistance to anyone in need for help, being the first responder to the emergency calls where action is taken as soon as a report is received.

However, he also listed some ‘emergency’ reports that the Operations Room of Abu Dhabi Police received that were amusing. He said that, recently, among the most amusing reports they received was when an old man called the Operations Room requesting assistance in stopping the strong winds that had led to a dust-storm as he wanted to step out of his house.

Lt. Col. Nasser said that the staff in the Operations Room advised the person to not leave his home that day for his own safety, and he followed the advice.

Another amusing report was from a person of Asian nationality where he asked if the Operations Room staff speak English, and we confirmed to him that the staff was able to speak in different languages… even his native language.

He said that the caller then launched into a conversation that was littered with a wide mix of common languages spoken in Asia, along with broken English and Arabic languages. Despite informing him that the staff was able to speak English and even his own native language, the caller decided to report a fight between some of his friends in a mix of languages.

Of course, police rushed to the site of the incident and dealt with the situation.

Another report he shared was when a woman living in Madinat Khalifa, Abu Dhabi, asked for help to reach her house.

Headed it was clear that she had lost her way to the house and didn’t know the directions, and the operations room dealt seriously with the call and were able to identify her location on the map, as well her destination (her house).

It turned out that she was standing right next to her house but was utterly confused. The staff calmly directed her to the house safely.

He added the Operations Room emergency number 999 receives calls around the clock in order to meet the emergency needs of callers, and that this policy is following the directives of police leadership to communicate with the public, wherever they are, and ward off the risk of them.
