RAK waives building violations

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has ordered the waiving of penalties against all building violations committed before the issuance of the 2008 Construction Law.

Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Chairman of the RAK Municipality, said in a statement that the RAK ruler aims to rectify the erroneous status of residential buildings and provide better services to citizens, as well as educate them about the negative effects of violations.

He added that offenders would be pardoned within a one-year grace period from the date of issuance, reiterating that the decision aims to remove random construction additions to buildings in residential areas, which were added without even referring to the competent authorities.

He added that those who would fail to comply with the one-year grace period would be hit with fines.
