Road mishaps kill 1 every 2 days in Dubai
Road accidents killed an average one person every two days in Dubai in the first nine months of 2015, according to the emirate’s traffic police chief.
During January-September, there were 2,258 accidents that resulted in 122 deaths, far more than the number of casualties in the same period of last year, Colonel Saif Al Mazroui said, quoted by the Arabic language daily 'Al Bayan'.
He said the accidents were caused by speeding, reckless driving, non-concentration by drivers, failure to abide by traffic laws, sudden change of lanes, failure to leave enough distance between cars, drink driving and other reasons.
Driving under the influence of alcohol caused 430 accidents that killed seven people and injured 106, he said, adding that 796 cars were damaged in those crashes.
“Driving under the influence of alcohol was the third major cause of accidents and deaths on the roads in the emirate this year.”
