Salesman jailed for molesting 11-year old

An Indian salesman has been sentenced by the Dubai Court of First Instance to one year in jail for molesting an 11-year-old schoolgirl in the lift of her building.

The 24-year-old man allegedly misbehaved with the child at her residence while she was on her way back from school on June 13 at about 2pm.

The girl testified that she went to a grocery store below her building but ut was crowded and so she decided to leave without buying anything.

"As I entered the lift the man also walked in behind  me. I had to go to the second floor. Inside the lift he started coming closer to me and misbehaved with me. I got out on the first floor and started screaming and one of the residents came to my rescue," she said.

The girl's father, MAS, 45, testified that his neighbour brought his daughter home.

He immediately rushed out to look for the accused, when he saw a group of people holding a man.

Policeman Taher Mohammed testified that the accused confessed to attempting to run away after molesting the child.
