Sharjah's one person, one post rule

His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah has issued the Law No. 6 for 2010, amending the Law No. 3 of 1999 on the establishment of the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC).

According to the new law, Articles 12, 18 and 26 shall be amended to respectively read: It shall not be permissible to simultaneously enjoy membership of the Consultative Council and either of the Federal National Council (FNC), the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) and the emirate's municipal council.

The Consultative Council's annual convening session shall not be less than 8 months, starting October of each year. The Council shall hold an ordinary session every two weeks. The Council may be called for an extraordinary session whenever the need arises.

The Consultative Council shall prepare its bylaws which shall be issued by virtue of an Amiri Decree. The bylaws shall specify the tasks and powers of the Council Bureau, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. It shall also set out regulations for the Council's committees and meetings, as well as procedures for sessions, proposals, complaints, general secretariat affairs and internal issues of the council such as deliberations, voting system and membership.

The law shall be effective from the date of issuance. It shall supersede any act that contradicts with its provisions and shall be published in the official gazette.
