Shortage of female school bus attendants?
A school-run transport team in Dubai claims there's a shortage of female bus attendants.
Following complaints from parents over "no lady attendants" in their children's school bus, ‘Emirates24|7’ had contacted the private school in Dubai's Garden area.
“We have been on the lookout, and are struggling to find the right candidate,” said a senior member of the school's management.
He added that “hiring was in progress”.
“We are looking to hire candidates with good hygiene and English-speaking skills.”
While most transportation in private schools is outsourced to private firms, some schools take care of it internally.
This school only recently took on transportation responsibilities, and had increased the fees.
When Knowledge and Human Development Authority had contacted, they stated that issues pertaining to transportation was handled by the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA).
According to the guidelines set by the RTA every school bus must have a female bus attendant.
“Appoint a female conductor for each bus, with exception of male students only buses, from class 6 up to the secondary level,” it reads.
