UAE customers complain of receiving bogus FedEx parcel e-mails
A number of UAE residents and businesses are reporting receiving bogus FedEx notification emails asking them to collect their undelivered parcel from their nearest FedEx office.
One such e-mail that was forwarded to Emirates 24|7 by one of our readers read:
“Dear Customer, Your parcel has arrived at the post office at December 4.Our postrider was unable to deliver the parcel to you. To receive a parcel, please, go to the nearest our office and show this postal receipt.
Best Regards, The FedEx Team”
Although the e-mail appears to have come from FedEx, a closer look reveals that it is sent through a bogus ID (fp-366 @ jerseycity. com), and provides a non-functional link to a postal receipt, which the e-mail claims needs to be shown at the FedEx office to claim the said parcel.
A customer service executive at FedEx that Emirates 24|7 called to check maintained that such e-mails were not being sent by the courier company, and urged us to ignore the message as it was a spam.
“Please ignore this,” the executive told this website. “It’s just a spam e-mail. All e-mails coming from us will have a FedEx ID. There have been cases where customers have got back to us with the same issue,” she added.
The order number given in such e-mails are not valid and do not show any results when tracked on the official FedEx website.
An official spokesperson of FedEx UAE described such fraudulent emails as "common" and recommended receivers to contact the company in such an event.
"FedEx is committed to protecting our customers’ information and to deterring the attempted misuse of the FedEx brand," the spokesperson said.
"Fraudulent e-mails are the most common avenue of online scams and are the unauthorized actions of third parties not associated with FedEx Express. These emails claim to be from a reputable source in an attempt to trick customers into divulging personal or account information, sending payments, or otherwise taking an action that will result in fraud," she added.
"We recommend customers either contact our customer service if they receive any suspicious emails or report them to abuse@fedex.com."
