UAE keen to be destination for world media: Ahmad Abdullah Al Shaikh
The UAE is keen to become the destination for world media, said Ahmad Abdullah Al Shaikh, Director-General of Dubai Government Media Office and Managing Director of Dubai Media Incorporated.
"Dubai Government is sparing no effort to support media institutions to operate transparently," he said in a meeting with Russell Haworth, General Manager, Thomson Reuters Foundation for the Middle East and Africa, on Sunday, reported 'Al Bayan'. "The UAE believes in having an open media," he added.
In fact the success of Reuters experiment here only stresses the fact that the UAE is keen to provide and support the functioning of media institutions, he added.
Abdullah Al Shaikh and Haworth discussed means of future cooperation between the UAE and Reuters - the world's leading provider of news and information.
Haworth expressed his appreciation and happiness at the support Reuters has been receiving from the government. Following a successful experiment, Reuters now plans to expand its team in Dubai, he added.
