Dubai court cases up 47% last year
The total number of cases registered in Dubai courts (court of first
instance, court of appeal and court of cassation) increased by 47 per
cent in 2009 compared to that of 2008, according to a latest report.
According to the Annual Statistical Report of Courts of Dubai “there were
49,429 cases registered in 2009 compared to 33,558 in 2008".
The cases registered included both disputes and non-disputes, with the
exception of criminal cases.
Dispute cases include conflicts between two parties, including civil, commercial and personal cases.
While non-disputes include applications submitted and urgent requests presented to the interim relief judge.
The number of cases registered with the Court of First Instance increased
to 43,486 in 2009 compared to 28,832 in 2008, averaging a rate of 51 per
cent.
The Court of Appeal witnessed an increase in the number of the registered
cases to 4,927 compared to 3,831 in 2008, an increase of 1096 cases, that
is a rise of 29 per cent.
The Court of Cassation witnessed an increase in the number of registered
cases to 1,016 in 2009 compared with 895 in 2008.
This is an increase 121 cases, which of a rateis a 14 per cent rise.
There was a 39 per cent increase in the ratio of verdicts awarded vis-a-
vis the number of registered cases compared to the 2008 figure.
