Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) has launched the Dubai Knowledge Majlis, an initiative aimed at providing a platform for senior Dubai government officials to gain insights from leading experts on vital issues impacting the future of the region.
The inaugural session of the Dubai Knowledge Majlis held yesterday was attended by President of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
Speaking about the initiative, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said: “The key to Dubai’s success has always been our ability to adapt, move fast, and take advantage of global opportunities. Understanding global issues and new trends that are shaping our world, and developing plans to manage these are vital to our ability to sustain our successes and our growth. The Dubai Knowledge Majlis is a promising initiative that will help us strengthen our strategic thinking on how we can continue to thrive and grow in these rapidly changing and complex times.”
The inaugural session of the Dubai Knowledge Majlis featured a talk by a leading US academic and political advisor Vali Nasr, the Dean of the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. The event seeks to provide senior government officials with global foresight on key trends that can affect the region’s development across a range of areas.
Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office Mona Al Marri said: “The Dubai Knowledge Majlis, launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, aims to support Dubai’s efforts to maintain and enhance its leadership as a global business hub. The timing of this event is critical given the increasing complexity of our region, and the rapid changes taking place on many levels.
“It is important to listen and gain insights from experts who have spent their life analysing our region. These sessions are designed to help Dubai stay ahead of the game, work better together as an integrated government, effectively facing challenges and taking advantage of new opportunities, and building the strategic agility needed to survive and thrive in the future.”
The GDMO Director General revealed that the Dubai Knowledge Majlis will continue to host international thought leaders and experts on strategic issues at sessions that will be held every quarter.
Directors of Government Departments and Heads of semi-government organisations who attended the event praised the concept of the Dubai Knowledge Majlis and said that it reflects Dubai’s strategic ethos that places high importance on being able to respond to any scenario in the future.
The Majlis, they said, gives them the opportunity not only to gain new perspectives and ideas but also discuss insights and opinions with leading experts.
