Mohammed raises number of beneficiaries of 'Dress One Million Children' campaign
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has given orders to increase the number of beneficiaries of the 'Clothe a Million Children' campaign as it has already reached its target of clothing one million underprivileged children around the world.
Launched ten days ago by Sheikh Mohammed, the campaign was scheduled to end on 19 Ramadan to coincide with Emirati Humanitarian Work Day, the annual event held in memory of the late founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
"I am proud of all the response the campaign has received from individual and corporate donors. This is not strange for Emiratis, the sons of Zayed, nor for the expatriates who are keen on charity work anytime and regardless of the number of beneficiaries. Giving in the UAE is unlimited and is not bound to a certain number. Generosity of the UAE can reach out to all the underprivileged around the world," Sheikh Mohammed said.
"I am happy that, in a record time, the campaign could achieve its target of clothing one million underprivileged children. I therefore gave orders to increase the number of the beneficiaries in order to produce the maximum possible benefit for children, and at the same time to bolster solidarity in the Emirati society during the holy month of Ramadan.
“I was interested in closely following the activities of the campaign and the visits to underprivileged children around the world. I was happy to see smiles being put on the faces of thousands of children. I am keen on going forward to continue the campaign as we wish the best in this Ramadan for all underprivileged children around the world," Sheikh Mohammed added.
The high-profile campaign has started the distribution of donated clothes to a large number of children in Bosnia, Yemen, Lebanon, Tanzania, Zanzibar as well as to Syrian children in Lebanon and Jordan.
