Thief targets expensive clothes shops
A thief who had eluded the owners of expensive clothes shops in Kuwait for a long time has finally been caught by the cameras he had tried to outwit.
The man, a Syrian, had targeted expensive clothes and took advantage of the absence of security cameras inside fitting rooms to get his loot.
“He was so daring that he would come back to the same shop he has just robbed,” the Kuwaiti Arabic language daily Alanba reported on Tuesday.
Once inside the fitting room, the man would wear all the new items he intends to try on, leaving only one or two pieces to return to the employee.
He would then leave the shop with a loot of several trousers or underwear pieces, only to come back later to ask the shop to change some of them, claiming he had lost the bill, the paper said.
“Many shops then decided to report the case to the police after discovering the disappearance of clothes every time they do an inventory,” it said.
“Police decided to resort to the security cameras and started to watch those shops…they then saw an Arab man enter the fitting room at one shop, holding many pieces of clothes…after a while, he came out without any piece…when they stopped him outside and searched him, they found that he was wearing eight expensive trousers and six shirts. The man was arrested after he confessed to stealing clothes worth more than KD8,000 (Dh100,000).”
