Sharjah’s ATM thieves busted

Police arrested two men, suspected of robbing bank customers in Sharjah.

The thieves reportedly targeted customers on their way to the bank to withdraw money from banks in various parts of the emirate.

On Tuesday, the suspects, Mohammed Ali Ahmed hailing from Chad and Ismail Mohammed Hassan Adam from Sudan, were arrested as they tried to break into a car.

Ahmed tried to escape, but the police apprehended him.

On searching their apartments, police found tools that they had used to break into cars to steal cash from their victims.

During interrogations, both suspects confessed to the crimes they had committed. The case was referred to the public prosecution.

Earlier, a large number of complaints had been registered at Sharjah Police about the two men who followed customers out of the bank.

Sharjah Police then formed an investigation team to look into the case and to identify the suspects.

A top official at the Criminal Investigation Department said that during the course of investigations, the team managed to identify the suspects and locate their whereabouts.
