Baby, born in trishaw, dies after falling on floor of vehicle
A newborn baby has died in Sri Lanka after falling on the floor of a trishaw in which he was born while his expectant mother was on the way to a maternity hospital, the ‘Sunday Times’ has reported.
Vanitha Priyani (26) from Malabe was on her way to the Castle Street Maternity Hospital in Colombo in a trishaw when she gave birth before reaching the hospital but the baby fell down on the floor of the three-wheeler.
Both were rushed to the hospital where the infant was pronounced dead.
“On that day, I was at home. When I heard a cry in the other room I went and found my granddaughter lying on the floor in the throes of delivery. With the help of a neighbour, we took her to the hospital in a three-wheeler around 1pm”, Priyani’s grandfather Don Gamini said.
Fearful of parents, schoolboy in love hangs himself
A 14-year-old Sri Lankan schoolboy hanged himself in the house on Saturday after his parents came to know about his love affair, the ‘Lakbima’ reported.
The boy, a grade 9 student, was in love with a schoolgirl of the same area.
After coming to know about it, the boy’s parents had reprimanded him and asked him to put an end to the love affair.
Though the parents rushed the boy to the Anamaduwa District Hospital, he was pronounced dead on admission by doctors.
Woman surrenders to police after killing sleeping husband
A Sri Lankan woman surrendered herself to the police on Sunday morning after killing her husband and leaving their three children at home, the ‘Mawbima’ newspaper reported.
The woman (32), a resident of the Nivithigala police division, had killed the 38-year-old husband with a sharp weapon while he was asleep, as he often quarreled with her after getting drunk.
The couple had three children aged 17, 14 and 10.
