Thousands evacuated in western Canada after landslide
About 2,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in western Canada after a landslide triggered fears of a flood.
The slide created a dam 300m wide and two kilometres long in Meager Creek, near Pemberton, 250km north of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Several hours after the slide hit early Friday morning, an evacuation alert was ordered because of the potential of a rapid leak or release from a lake that formed behind the dam area.
Regional emergency operations official Ryan Wainwright said Saturday that it is too early to say when the evacuation order would be lifted.
