Isn't that a lizard in the pickle bottle?
A consumer forum in India has fined a large retail chain Rs50,000 (approximately Dh4,120) after a dead lizard was found in a pickle jar.
The consumer forum – that has judicial powers by the tough Indian laws that govern consumer rights – fined Bharti Retail for the mishap reported by an angry consumer in Barnala, a town in the north Indian state of Punjab.
According to a Times of India, Gurpreet Singh was in for a shock when the jar of pickle bought from Easy Day, a subsidiary of Bharti, was opened at dinner table. What they found inside was a dead – and well-pickled – lizard.
He approached the consumer forum after the retail outlet allegedly ignored his complaint.
Bharti Retail, promoted through a joint venture with global chain Wal-Mart, has to pay the compensation within 30 days.
