Liverpool linked with Barca striker Villa
Liverpool have once again been linked with a shock move for Barcelona striker David Villa who is no longer guaranteed of first team place at the Nou Camp, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Reds were interested in the Spanish striker when he left Valencia in 2010 but Barcelona was understandably the international striker’s preferred destination.
No longer an automatic pick under Pep Guardiola, Villa could well look elsewhere for first team opportunities, with new signings Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas being accommodated in the side alongside Pedro – seen as a better foil to Lionel Messi.
Kenny Dalglish would certainly welcome the prolific Spain striker to his squad, despite having shelled out a combined amount of around £60 million for Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez at the beginning of his reign.
The Catalan giants forked out £40 million for Villa who was considered the best striker in the world at the time.
Villa, 30, next week knows that a new batch of youngsters are coming though at both Barcelona and in Spain overall that could put his place in jeopardy.
Liverpool are the only club to show interest in the striker with the failure of Carroll being a major concern at Anfield.
Villa has scored four goals in 13 league matches so far this and has looked slightly short of his devastating best, much like Barcelona who were beaten 1-0 by Getafe on Saturday.
England would be a fresh challenge for Villa to play in a side that had such a Spanish influence a few years ago and is still host to a few of the national side players.
