Why Spurs’ Adebayor worries Arsenal’s Wenger

Arsene Wenger is a worried man. Despite his team being on an amazing unbeaten run, all that really matters is finishing in the top four for Arsenal.

Anything else, will be a failure.

And a mountain now stands between Arsenal and the top four.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, but most importantly, Tottenham Hotspur – the arch rivals.

A measure of Wenger’s psyche can be gauged by his comments on Emmanuel Adebayor.

He said his loan to Tottenham is unfair.

Manchester City are paying the majority of Adebayor’s £170,000-a-week wages, even though he is now helping Spurs in the battle for Champions League places.

In effect, Adebayor is being paid by City to score goals against all other rivals, while Premier League rules prevent him turning out against his parent club.

While Harry Redknapp, returning from hospital, sounded the battle cry for Premier League glory no less, with  Tottenham's 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday night seeing the side climb to third - making them London's best-placed club; Wenger wanted his team to not let the battle for London supremacy interfere with their European aspirations.

Despite Spurs' excellent form, Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere is doing his best to dismiss the challenge from across north London.

The 19-year-old has pledged a £3,000 charity donation if Arsenal's bitter rivals finish above his own side.
