India's Sidhu admits cheating in a Sharjah match
Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has admitted cheating during a match against West Indies played in Sharjah several years ago.
He made this startling confession in a reality show on an Indian television channel Bigg Boss 6, according to the Hindustan Times.
The outspoken cricketer who is popular among television audiences across the country for his wise cracks, recalled dismissing tailender Courtney Walsh by taking a catch after crossing the boundary.
“Haan, in Sharjah maine Courtney Walsh ka catch boundary rope main pakda tha aur hum woh match jeet gaye the,” Sidhu has said in reply to a question put to him during a lie detector test in the Bigg Boss House, the report added.
In his statement Singh meant that Walsh was falsely dismissed in the match where Singh had actually taken the catch after crossing the boundary line, and eventually India won that match.
This, when he was asked if he had ever cheated during his international career spanning 18 years.
The cricketer-turned-politician, was however quick to add, “But I am repentant.”
There have been several instances in cricket where fielders have claimed catches which were disputed but this is the first instance a cricketer has admitted to cheating.
